What Do Birthmarks Mean In The Bible?
We all have birthmarks on a specific part of our body. From the biblical perspective, birthmarks were used as a sign of identity in a clan, belief, and tradition.
Even so, a birthmark is a clear sign you belong to God. You will not get birthmarks mentioned directly in the bible, but there are symbolism associated with it.
For instance, the circumcision of the Jews was a mark that the Jews were God’s possession. Ideally, birthmarks establish your connection to God, who is the source of life.
Birthmarks in the bible are also used to signify your inner desire. You are the kind of person who always wants to know who you are.
This means you need to rediscover yourself, and God has already shown you the path to rediscover yourself.
Biblically, birthmarks are also signs that you should make peace with your past. God is bringing that peace to you through the birthmarks. Ideally, God wants you to forgive yourself and walk away from your past.
Other meanings include:
- A reminder of your identity to Christ;
- A sign for you to trust your inner intuition;
- An indication of a third eye, especially if it’s beneath the eyes.

Why Did God Give Us Birthmarks?
Before I go into details, do you know that birthmarks are signs from God? Well, you won’t get a direct mention of birthmarks in the bible, but various symbolism associated with them.
We are all made in His image and likeness. God designed our bodies the way He wants them to.
The most interesting part is that everyone has a birthmark. This means we are all called to fulfill a different purpose.
Also, God gave us a birthmark as a guiding light to our roots. That is why today you know about your lineage, clan, and origin.
Traditionally, it’s believed that these birthmarks can be passed to people in the same lineage.
Biblically, God gives the birthmark for people to rediscover themselves. Another thing is that God gives birthmarks as a mark of protection against evil.
So, no matter the location of your birthmark, there are meanings attached to it.
What Does The Bible Say About Birthmarks? 5 Bible Verses
1) Leviticus 22:21
“When anyone brings from the herd or flock a fellowship offering to the Lord to fulfill a special vow or as a freewill offering, it must be without defect or blemish to be acceptable.”
Leviticus 22:21 (NIV)
From this verse, we can learn that God cares about wholeness and purity. To offer him sacrifice, only a sacrifice without blemish can stand the presence of pure goodness.
Our souls are already blemished. This means we already know our fate because we all have a birthmark, which is a mark of inevitable death and decay.
I believe you should also take a look at the meaning of the Preauricular sinus in the Bible.
2) John 9:1-3
“As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”
John 9:1-3 (NIV)
From this passage, God was trying to prove that the disability wasn’t a punishment. But this was God’s work in His people’s lives. There is no direct divine mention of birthmarks.
3) 1 John 5:1
“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Messiah is a child of God; and whoever loves a father loves his child also.”
1 John 5:1 (GNT)
This verse puts an emphasis on how all believers of Christ have been born of God.
The only way to be born again as a Christian is by believing that Jesus Christ died for our sins, acting according to the biblical teachings, and receiving God as our savior.
When we receive Christ, this becomes the first birthmark of a child of God.
You can gain more insights about how your birthmarks are associated with being born again by continuing to read:
- 1 John 5:6;
- 1 John 5:10;
- 1 John 4:2-3;
- 1 John 2:18-19.
4) 1 John 2:29
“If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.”
1 John 2:29 (NIV)
From this verse, we learn that God himself is righteous. And when you become born again, you also become righteous. You will become righteous because you receive His nature.
This is exactly the same as what I have been talking about in what birthmarks mean in the bible. It is a clear sign you belong to God. However, this doesn’t entirely mean that you will become perfect.
No human is perfect. We fail in some parts of life, but we have an advocate (1 John 2:1).
A true child of God does what is right in God’s eyes. And because of this birthmark of God, when you choose Him, you will live a harmonious and peaceful life in Him, just like Zacchaeus did.
5) 1 John 5:4
“For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”
1 John 5:4 (NIV)
Having a birthmark of God is also associated with overcoming worldly things. As mentioned earlier, the birthmarks we have are a representation of our desires, which can be worldly.
When you shift your focus to worldly things, you will lose harmony and even drive away from the path of truth.
Remember, birthmarks in our bodies have significant meanings, whether they are hidden or visible.
Through faith in Christ, you will overcome worldly desires with ease.
Having faith in Him means you won’t you won’t rely on the world’s wisdom, you won’t enjoy worldly pleasures, and copy the habit you see today.
So, having a birthmark of God means you are a true child of God who doesn’t fall easily into the trap of worldly things.
